We continue to use our natural resources at
staggering rates to ensure development for an
expanding population. Political turmoil creates
uncertainty in the flow of trade and in the supplies
of fuels. Greenhouse gases are to be reduced.
Water is a finite resource and pressures on it
increase daily. Oil and gas prices are at record
levels. Electrical grids are more fragile and less
trustworthy.

New knowledge accumulates every day, requiring
us to focus on energy — because without it,
business could not survive, communities could
not prosper in the modern world. We rely on
energy for heating, cooling, lighting, processing,
comfort, safety, communication, transportation –
in short, almost everything we do. As costs for all
forms of energy bring increases in both utility
rates and operational expenses, the concepts of
sustainability and green design are becoming
important economic and ethical issues for all
organizations. And even more critically, the need
for power where there is none and the necessity
for reliable and high quality power for many of our
daily and economic activities, are tending to show
the importance of local, controllable, renewable
energy systems.

It is time for all of to focus on achieving more with
less – on better managing how we use ALL our
resources (including financial ones) as part of a
system. This attitude will not only help us achieve
more, but will make us stronger in the face of
competition, unpredictable supplies, and
conditions, and diminishing available resources.

It is for these reasons that we do what we do.
